Prison life is a very brutal and lonely experience. Most prisoners have lost all contact with their family and friends. It is very difficult for a prisoner to
develop the quality relationships that are so vital to human life and
well-being. He just needs a friend, someone who
will listen and help him remember that he is a human and worth something
in this world. This is why being able to
write to someone “on the outside” can make a world of difference to him. A letter is the brightest point of a
prisoner's day.
Such a correspondence can really be a very mutually rewarding human experience for both you and your penpal, but before you embark on this journey, make sure that you will have
the time to write on a regular basis. Such a decision must not be taken lightly.
Important: you must be 18 years old at least, to write to a prisoner.
